Step 3) Discuss:
Now, get your students talking. Start with 1-3 questions of your choice:

  • Where is tree bark found?
  • What does tree bark protect?
  • Without their bark, would trees dry up? What would happen?
  • Are trees alive? Is their bark alive?
  • What happens as trees grow older?
  • Is bark to trees what skin is to the human body? What’s similar/different between them?

Step 4) Answer:
So, why do trees have bark?

Your students should now have a strong grasp on how to answer this question. Let them tell you!
